Itinerary

Day 1

Your tour will start with a morning flight to Pisa. Flying with Ryanair, your flight departs Dublin at 09:45 and arrives into Pisa at 13:30. On arrival in Pisa, meet your local guide for transfer to your 4* Hotel in Florence you are booked for five-nights on a bed & breakfast basis. Welcome dinner in a typical Trattoria close to your hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast your guide will take you on a walking tour (approx 2.5 hours) of Florence’s major attractions. Today, discover the historical center of Florence as you learn about the cities important monuments and sights including: St. Maria del Fiore Dome , Giotto’s tower bell, Piazza dei Signori, the facade of Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce Church, Ponte Vecchio After a busy morning sightseeing, relax over lunch in a typical Italian restaurant. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure for independent sightseeing. This evening, take in a concert in the beautiful and historical church of Santa Monaca (near the Ponte Vecchio and Pitti Palace). Enjoy a journey with the most famous arias from Italian Operas. You will hear music from operas such as La Traviata, La Boheme, Tosca, Le Nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, all interpreted by professional singers who have performed in the most important Italian theatres.

Day 3

You can’t leave Florence without visiting one of the most famous art galleries in the world, the Uffizzi Gallery. Here you can admire numerous works of art by Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello, Giotto, Cimabue, Masaccio and many others. Among the precious exhibition halls of the Gallery, the most renowned one contains the refined works by Botticelli, amongst which the absolute masterpieces: “Primavera” and “Birth of Venus”. The latter painting, the icon of the museum, represents the allegory of the birth of the goddess emerging from the sea foam and symbolizes the ideal of beauty as an expression of purity and spiritual quality, typical of the Renaissance Neoplatonic aesthetics. (approx. 2 hours). Lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the equally famous Academy Gallery, where we admire original masterpieces by the great Michelangelo, such as David, the Prisoners, the Saint Matthew and the Barberini Pietà. The afternoon continues with a visit to the the Medici Chapels and the New Sacristy, where Lorenzo il Magnifico was buried, and the only location where Michelangelo worked both as architect and sculptor at the same time. (approx. 3 hours). This evening is at your leisure.

Day 4

Enjoy a full day excursion to San Gimignano and Siena to learn about the art and history of these stunning italian towns. The day begins with a visit to the outstanding medieval village of San Gimignano, famous for the 13th century towers that stand as testament to the medieval prosperity of the village and the wealth of its merchants. Stop for lunch in an Agriturismo, a Tuscan farm situated on the Tuscan hills where they produce local wine and olive oil. In the afternoon, the tour continues on to Siena, cradle of the Italian Gothic style. Here, we focus our attention on the spectacular Dome and Baptistery, which beautifully symbolises the religious nature of the Sienese. The 12th century shell-shaped piazza known as the Campo is the site of the famous Palio horserace and is crowned by the Palazzo Pubblico, representing the independence and economic might of the Sienese oligarchy. On the road back to Florence, we stop for a tasting of Tuscan wine and oil.

Day 5

After breakfast, follow in the footsteps of Medici Family. The day starts with a visit to the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, a refined example of a Renaissance palace, with its delightful chapel featuring beautiful frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli. The tour continues with the church of San Lorenzo; here we pay particular attention to the Old Sacresty, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, where the founding fathers of the Medici family are buried. Next, we visit the Princes’ Chapel, an extraordinary Baroque Pantheon in which the ‘princes’ of the Medici family lie in rest. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, explore the Palatine Gallery (Galleria Palatina). This is a private collection at Pitti Palace, which will take roughly two hours to complete. This private collection is made up of a vast group of paintings owned by the Grand Duke and are displayed in the official staterooms on the first floor of the Pitti Palace. You will explore the various rooms in the palace, including the Planetary Rooms. These rooms were designed by the great Baroque painter Pietro da Cortona and create an overwhelmingly stunning environment of frescoes and stucco. This beautiful setting provides the perfect background of the superb exhibition of paintings from the Medici collection, including masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, Rubens and VanDijk. Rising behind the Pitti Palace are the beautiful Boboli Gardens. They were originally designed for the Medici and are one of the earliest examples of the Italian Garden. Explore and enjoy this open-air museum together with our guide. Farewell dinner in typical restaurant.

Day 6

Today, you have the morning and afternoon free in Florence for independent sightseeing. In the late afternoon, meet your local guide for coach transfer to airport for return flight. Flight departs Pisa 21:00 and arrives Dublin 23:00
