New York: The Metropolitan Opera, Galleries and Museums


For 2019, we have an exciting addition to our tours programme with the release of our New York: The Metropolitan Opera, Galleries and Museums tour.  Recently, the Met has seen a huge rise in its global audience thanks to the high-definition live cinema broadcast and wonderful as these are, there is nothing like the thrill and excitement of a live performance at the Met.  A tour highlights is a backstage tour, dinner at The Grand Tier and performance of La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera. We also visit the fabulous Lincoln Centre for a performance by the New York Philharmonic.  We add visits to the city’s best known museum – The Metropolitan Museum of Art and also visit the lesser know yet stunning Frick Museum collection, one of the world’s finest private art collections.

Day 1

Your tour begins with a morning flight from Dublin to New York City. On arrival, meet your local guide for coach transfer to the Riu Plaza New York Times Square Hote where you will stay for five nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2

Meet your local guide and explore New York on our full day “Best of New York” Tour.  Visit the National 9/11 memorial; explore the financial district on foot – Wall Street,“The Bull“, St.Paul’s Chapel. Trinity Church; see Central Park, Fifth Avenue, St.Patrick Cathedral; see the Statue of Liberty and visit Ellis Island.  You will be provided with a lunch voucher for use at Liberty/Ellis Island. The tour will involve a walking element and we therefore recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes for this excursion.

Day 3

Today, visit the wonderful Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are many museums in New York but the Metropolitan Museum of Art is truly one of the best. From the sidewalk on Fifth Avenue, the Met, with its tall columns and windows, immense stairways and water fountains, looks like it could be an emperor's palace. The size and diversity of the artwork on display is even more impressive; the museum's collection contains works from every part of the world, spanning the Stone Age to the twentieth century. The Egyptian Art gallery includes a whole temple that was shipped to America as a gift.

Following lunch, we visit the Frick Collection.   Internationally recognised as one of the world’s premier museums, the Frick is known for its distinguished Old Master paintings and outstanding European sculpture and decorative arts. The collection was assembled by the Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919) and is housed in his former residence on Fifth Avenue. One of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions, it allows visitors to experience masterpieces by artists such as Bellini, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Gainsborough, Goya, and Whistler. The museum opened in 1935 and has continued to acquire works of art since Mr. Frick’s death.

Day 4

Breakfast at your hotel

Morning at leisure. Explore some of New York’s finest museums or perhaps indulge in a spot of shopping.

In the afternoon, meet your local guide for coach transfer to The Lincoln Centre.  Start your Met Opera experience with a Metropolitian Opera Guild Backstage Tour.  Afterwards, enjoy a three course dinner at The Grand Tier Restaurant, The Met‘s own restaurant. Set within one of the most spectacular cultural destinations in the world, The Grand Tier at Lincoln Center's Metropolitan Opera House is a shrine to elegance and artistry. Enjoy sumptuous contemporary cuisine served in an atmosphere highlighted by spectacular chandeliers and original masterpieces.

After dinner, take your seat in The Metropolitan Opera for the evening performance of La Traviata.  (Orchestra seats are included)

Day 5

Day at leisure for independent exploration.

In the evening, meet your local guide for coach transfer to The Lincoln Centre for three course pre Concert dinner.

After dinner, take your seat in the David Geffen Hall for performance by the NY Philharmonic – Mahler’s Symphony No. 6. (Orchestra seats are included)

Mahler’s Sixth — a heart-stopping tour de force for virtuoso orchestra — discloses its tragedy slowly and dramatically: passages of great beauty and calm; violins soaring in the “Alma theme” (a portrait of the composer’s wife); and the sound of distant cowbells as if from alpine pastures. Please note that the venues reserve the right to change the advertised arrangements of any performance in the event of illness or any cause beyond their control. This includes non-appearance of any named artist. IFC have no control over performing artists. 

Flight Times

Flight times will be confirmed in June 2018. Flight times are subject to change at the airlines discretion.

Booking Deposit

Booking deposit is €900 pp.  Balance is due 10 weeks prior to departure date.  No credit card charge on deposit payments. 

Passport and Visa for USA

It is your responsibility to ensure your passport will be valid for your holiday. Please contact IFC should you have any queries regarding your passport.  

Under the USA Visa Waiver Programme, most Irish passport holders do not require a visa to travel to the United States if travelling as a tourist for up to 90 days, however those qualifying for the Visa Waiver Programme must apply online for an ESTA which is authorisation to enter the USA, for which there may be a small administration fee. This may only be obtained online by visiting the official website:  We recommend that you obtain you ESTA as soon as you have booked your trip as entry to the US will be refused without it.  If you do not  qualify for the VWP, you will be required to apply for a visa to enter the US.  Please contact the relevant embassy for any additional information. Without authorisation prior to travel, admission may be denied at a US port of entry. It is the travellers responsibility to ensure that the have the relevant Visa Waiver / ESTA / Visa for entry to the USA. IFC cannot be held responsible for invalid documents.

Travel Insurance

IFC insist that all travellers to the US have adequate travel insurance for the duration of the trip and can offer a competitive quotation if not already purchased. IMPORTANT: If you have purchased travel insurance with IFC. If you or any person travelling has a pre-existing medical condition then you must declare that condition to Health Check.
