Admire the magnificant architecture of Hungary’s parliament building, walk the famous Andrásy Avenue – starting from the historic Heroes Square and stretching almost as far as the St Stephen's Basilica. See the city sights on a city tour as you are chauffeured along Budapest's elegant boulevards to Heroes’ Square, across the mighty Danube and up to Gellert Hill. Look out over the famous river dividing Buda and Pest - the two sides linked by the Chain and Elizabeth Bridges. Visit the Castle District and enjoy the amazing views from the Fisherman’s Bastion over the exquisite Parliament building, one of the largest in Europe. During your free time, visit the glittering Budapest Christmas Markets and enjoy mulled wine, traditional handicrafts and the beautiful, festive lights or perhaps take time to spend the afternoon at the popular pedestrian shopping street of Váci utca where the city’s fine museums and monuments, churches and synagogues, historic squares and buildings are within easy reach or enjoy a relaxing visit to one of Budapest's famous thermal baths, literally an institution in Budapest!

Itinerary

Day 1

Your tour will start with an afternoon flight to Budapest. Flying with Aer Lingus, your flight departs Dublin at 14:00 and arrives into Budapest airport at 18:00. Please note that flight times are subject to change at airlines discretion.

On arrival in Budapest, meet your local guide for private coach transfer to the 4* Hotel Nemzeti Budapest M Gallery President Hotel, located in the centre of Budapest, where you are booked for four nights on a bed & breakfast basis.

This evening is at your leisure.

Day 2

After breakfast, join your local guide for a city tour of Budapest (via coach). Budapest is Hungary’s capital with a population in excess of 1.7 million. It is Hungary’s principal cultural, commercial, industrial, political, and transportation center and covers an area of roughly 525 square miles. The city’s primary allure is the beautiful Danube River as it gracefully meanders its way through the city.

After a busy morning, you have the afternoon free for independent sightseeing. In the early evening, meet your fellow travellers for a pre-concert dinner in the hotel restaurant and afterwards meet your local guide for coach transfer to the Palace for the Arts for evening concert performance with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov. Performance start time 19:30

Return transfer by coach at the end of the evening.

Day 3

Day at leisure for independent sightseeing.

In the early evening, meet your fellow travellers for a pre-concert dinner in the hotel restaurant and afterwards meet your local guide for coach transfer to the Erkel Theatre for the evening ballet performance of The Nutcracker (with category 1 tickets).

Performance start time 19:00.

The Erkel Theatre

The Erkel Theatre opened its gates as the Peoples’ Opera on 7 December 1911. Designed by Dezső Jakab, Marcell Komor and Géza Márkus, only traces of the original construction can be seen today. The redevelopment works the building has gone through over the years are worthy of an academic study. The theatre has been the Hungarian State Opera’s second performance venue since 1951. Since its opening, the Erkel Theatre has been the country’s largest auditorium. It currently seats up to 1819 people.

Return transfer by coach at the end of the evening.

Day 4

This morning, join your local guide and depart for a guided tour of the Hungarian Parliament building.

Afternoon at leisure.

In the early evening, meet your local guide for transfer to Callas Café Restaurant for a 7-course celebratory New Year’s Eve Gala dinner at the Callas Café Restaurant, located next to the Opera House. Designed by architect Vilmos Freund in neo-renaissance style in 1880, the building, which is a national monument today, was completed one year before the opening of the Hungarian Opera House. Today, it is one of Budapest’s most prominent restaurants.

Day 5

Enjoy breakfast in your hotel and following breakfast check-out.

In the late afternoon, meet your local guide for private coach transfer to airport for your return flight.

Flight departs Budapest at 18:45 and arrives Dublin at 21:00. Please note that flight times are subject to change at airlines discretion
