Verona’s internationally renowned Opera Festival is known internationally as one of the most spectacular in the world.  Each year, operas are magnificently staged in the awe-inspiring ancient Roman amphitheatre known as the Arena di Verona.  The festival has previously hosted some of the world’s greatest opera singers and 2020 includes two fabulous performances; Aida on the 05 July and a unforgettable evening with Plácido Domingo on the 07 July 2020. Marvel at the architectural gems in Verona’, the city of Romeo and Juliet.  Admire the scenery of Lake Garda as we take an excursion to the characteristic town of Peschiera and harbour town of Sirmione.

Itinerary

Day 1

Your tour will start with a morning flight to Milan Linate airport. Flying with Aer Lingus, flight departs
Dublin at 07:00 and arrives Milan Linate at 10:40.  (please note that flight times are subject to
change at airline’s discretion)
 
On arrival, meet your local guide for private coach transfer to the 4* Hotel San Marco in Verona
(approx 2 hour transfer).

The 4* Hotel San Marco is located just outside the walls of Verona, approximately 2 km from the Arena di Verona. It offers classically furnished rooms with air-conditioning. 
 
A welcome drink will be served at check-in to allow you get to know your fellow travellers.
 
The remainder of the day is at your leisure.
 

Day 2

Today, join your local guide for a 2-hour walking tour of historic Verona.  Admire the Arena di Verona), explore the UNESCO-listed historical centre and learn about Verona’s architectural gems.
 
Verona is located in the heart of the province of Veneto. The fascinating city with its thousand-year history has become famous around the world for the legend of Shakespeare’s masterpiece: Romeo and Juliet. Roman remains, medieval traces, Venetian and Austria-Hungarian testimonies can be found in ancient palaces, on squares, bridges and beautiful churches.
Afternoon at leisure for independent sightseeing.
In the evening, transfer with your guide to the Piazza Arsenale where a short walk through the beautiful streets in Verona’s old town leads you directly to the restaurant on the famous Piazza Brá.  Enjoy a three-course pre-opera dinner before taking your seat in the Arena di Verona for the operatic highlight of the tour; Verdi's Aida. 
The ‘Queen’ of the Arena di Verona’s Opera titles Aida, will be staged once again in 2020 with the impressive production created the genius of Franco Zeffirelli, who recreates an ancient Egypt that is magnificent and multi-coloured, thanks to the iconic costumes created by Anna Anni, on a set dominated by a huge golden pyramid, expressly conceived and designed for the Arena’s wide spaces.

After the opera, transfer from Arena di Verona / Piazza Arsenale to your hotel. 
 

Day 3

Today, visit the largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda, on a half-day excursion from Verona visiting Peschiera and picturesque harbor town of Sirmione. 
 
Peschiera, one of Lake Garda's most characteristic towns, lies at the bottom of the Veronese coast, at a point where the waters of Lake Garda flows into the River Mincio where the first settlements date back to the Bronze Age.  As part of the tour, we take a lake cruise from Peschiera del Garda to the beautiful harbor town of Sirmione.  A wide moat separates Sirmione's traffic-calmed old town from the mainland, which stretches for four kilometers into Lake Garda. Next to the only bridge in town there is the beautiful moated castle and the romantically winding, colorful old town makes this a stunning Italian town.  Visit a traditional winery in the Vineyards of Lake Garda and afterwards return to Verona
 

Day 4

Day at leisure
 
In the evening, transfer with your guide to the Piazza Arsenale where a short walk through the beautiful streets in Verona’s old town leads you directly to the restaurant on the famous Piazza Brá.  Enjoy a three-course pre-opera dinner before taking your seat in the Arena di Verona for the musical highlight; an unforgettable Gala Evening with Plácido Domingo. Enjoy a unique opportunity to hear Plácido Domingo in the magnificent Arena di Verona taking you through the performances that made him world-famous.

Day 5

Check out of your hotel.  Today, you have some time for last minute shopping and exploration.  In the later afternoon, transfer with your guide to Milan Malpensa airport for your return flight.
Flight departs Milan Malpensa at 21:55 and arrives Dublin 23:20 (please note that flight times are subject to change at airline’s discretion).
